My Journey of Joy.

Fifteen years ago, I walked into a brightly lit room at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas and as I looked around, I didn't see one familiar face, except Kristen Bacus, the marketing manager at Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr. The crowd included an interesting mix of characters: mostly women, some men, all well-dressed, some of whom I had heard of and aspired to be like (like Deborah McMurray), some with whom I was dying to work (like Linda Hazelton) and some whom I wanted to meet (like Darryl Cross).

You see, I had just been recruited to serve as the first Dallas City Group Chair, responsible for planning events, creating educational content, working with speakers, driving group participation and serving as the face of legal marketing for the Dallas community. All these years later, I don't recall how I was recruited, but Erin Meszaros was a formidable recruitment resource for LMA then, so I'll give her the credit.

However, I do recall why I said yes. I wanted to be part of a community. Little did I know, however, that what I was actually saying yes to was a journey that would be much more impactful.

From my volunteerism at the Dallas City Group to the Southeastern Board of Directors and then to the LMA Board of Directors, I can sum my journey up in one phrase: I experienced pure joy.

As your soon-to-be immediate past president, I challenge you to experience the joy that I have by considering the following:
