Motor vehicle and parts dealers moved to the fast lane in 2014 with sales of $1 trillion--by far the largest total sales figure in all categories tracked in the U.S. Census Bureau's Annual Retail Trade Survey, the latest of which was released in March. Impressive as the sum is--it matches the 1970 gross national product for the entire country--the category's percentage increase, 6.5, was topped by a 10.1 percent gain in the electronic shopping and mail order category.
