More than 100 U.S. companies earn privacy shield certification.

The European Commission recently said that more than 100 U.S. companies have been certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce as having privacy policies that comply with the data protection standards required by the U.S.-EU Privacy Shield.

"I'm pleased that many companies have already signed up and brought their privacy policies in line with the Privacy Shield," Vera Jourova, the EU's commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, said in the announcement. "I encourage many others to continue to do so to ensure Europeans can have full confidence in the protection of their personal data when transferred to the U.S."
