"I really don't pay too much attention to race," says Sean Sutherland, 16, of Montclair, New Jersey. "Maybe in my mom's day it was a big deal. But it's just part of my life now."

Sutherland is part of the Millennium Generation--the most racially diverse generation in U.S. history. A third of today's 15-to-25-year-olds are nonwhite, compared with a quarter of their parents' generation. And an increasing number are racially mixed.

America's complexion is changing. By 2050, the U.S. Census Bureau predicts, white people will make up only 53 percent of the population. Soon after, whites will be a minority.
