Casual dress codes continue to gain greater acceptance by corporate America, according to a survey commissioned by the Society for Human Resource Management and Levi Strauss Co. In a nationwide poll of human resource managers, 90% indicated that their companies allow office workers to wear casual clothing to work, either regularly or on special occasions. That figure is up 27% from a 1992 study.

Of the firms allowing casual dress, 42% do so once each week, up from 17% in 1992. In addition, 33% permit casual dress every day of the week or on most days unless employees are meeting with key clients, up from 19%; 11% allow it only on special occasions; and one percent on a...
