Montgomery County, Ohio, opens new child advocacy center.

ON FEBRUARY 14, 2014, I was proud to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony of the nation's newest building housing a children's advocacy center, Montgomery County's CARE House.

As the elected prosecutor for Montgomery County Ohio since 1993, I have made it a priority to hold those who abuse children accountable. In addition to being a past president of the National District Attorneys Association, I am also a past president of the National Children's Alliance, the national accrediting agency for children's advocacy centers across the United States. I served as the chair of the Capital Campaign to raise the funds necessary for our new facility, and over $2.3 million dollars were raised, surpassing our goal.

In 1994, we decided to develop a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach to respond to child abuse allegations to ensure complete, accurate and coordinated investigations and interviews of children and the idea for CARE House was born.

In 1998, that multidisciplinary team was started. On February 9, 1999, that team moved into our first child advocacy center. However, as CARE House continued its mission, serving over 8,000 child victims of abuse, it became obvious that the building did not efficiently accommodate...
