Molly doesn't know Fidel.

When Molly Ivins wrote, "We could have and should have made friends with Fidel Castro decades ago," she was right ("Fidel, You Ol' Fart," October issue). Abusing a small country of eleven million people because of the threat of a good example belittles America, and allowing Jesse Helms to determine our foreign policy denigrates the USA worldwide.

When Fidel retires, there will be dedicated representatives ready to carry forward the revolutionary gains of the past forty-seven years. Molly might note that there are no billionaires in Cuba--they are all in Miami, voting for Bush.

I usually agree with Molly Ivins. She has the courage to say what is needed to be said about this Administration. However, her latest column in The Progressive disappointed me.

Fidel is a great figure...
