Though I am a relative newcomer to Detroit from Toronto, Detroit has, for reasons I can't really put my finger on, captured a place in my heart. It could be the grand elegance, or the gritty honesty and humility, or the vibrant mix of cultures, or the fact that it's the belly of the beast--where pure and simple transportation innovation over a century ago evolved into a global icon of regional culture that still sticks today. Probably all of the above. So when asked what are the assets we have here and how can we move the region and transportation forward, I can't help thinking it will take a mix of all of these things. The grand elegance to ensure that our evolving needs for sustainability and equity and livability are reflected in our transportation system, the gritty honesty and humility...
