Misunderstood Myths Concerning Diabetes.

Many people cannot identify common myths about diabetes, according to a survey conducted by Med-Star Health. In fact, 32% do not even understand that there are two kinds of diabetes; type 1 and type 2.

Here are some common myths, with the percentage of people surveyed who agreed with the statement:

* Eating too much sugar causes diabetes (61%).

* If someone is on insulin, it means that individual is not doing a good job of managing his or her blood sugar (44%).

* A person can stop taking diabetes medication once his or her blood sugar is under control (43%).

* Only people with a diabetic family member have to worry about getting the disease...
