Recognizing that minorities are not attracted to or employed by the accounting profession in proportion to their representation in society as a whole, the AICPA created the Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students some 30 years ago. The scholarships provide awards to outstanding minority students who show significant potential to become certified public accountants. For the 2003-2004 academic year, 154 scholarships were awarded in excess of $500,000. Over the last 10 years, the AICPA, through the AICPA Foundation, has awarded more than $6 million in minority accounting scholarships.
