Trinidad and Tobago hosted the 3rd Meeting of Ministers of Public Security of the Americas (MISPA III), which was held in early November 2011. Police management was highlighted in this meeting as a fundamental aspect of improving security conditions for the citizens of the Americas.

The modernization of police forces within the framework of democracy: support for the professionalization and training of police officers; and improved cooperation on police information systems and use of technology were the three primary focuses of the gathering. Conclusions will be transmitted to heads of state at the 6th Summit of the Americas which will be held in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) in Apri1 2012.
