The calamity-howlers who have been objecting so strenuously to the recent government expenditures for unemployment relief and calling so loudly for a balanced budget ought to read the War Department appropriation bill just passed by the House of Representatives. So far Congress has not considered the Navy appropriation for the coming fiscal year, but that bill too will undoubtedly demonstrate again the increasing cost of our growing military establishments.

The volume of protest coming from privileged groups complaining of the government's expenditures for unemployment relief has been growing. A hue and cry is being raised for a balanced budget, but the moment anyone proposes to cut down these unjustifiable expenditures for the militarization of...
