Mikunda, Cottrell & Co. celebrates a quarter century of providing certified public accounting services to Alaskans.

In 1977 when the firm opened a four-man accounting office in Anchorage, they provided their clients the standard list of services offered by most accounting firms of the time.

Times have changed. Like many hometown businesses, Mikunda, Cottrell started small but has become the largest locally owned accounting and consulting firm in the state of Alaska. The company has slowly, but consistently, grown in size and services offered. Its personnel roster numbers 13 partners and principals, managers and a staff of 70, ready to serve with a greatly expanded portfolio of specialized accounting services, in addition to the traditional work performed a generation ago.

"Much of the work we do today flows from a solid grounding in basic accounting services," says David Cottrell, President and Managing Partner. "But we are able to help our clients in some dynamic new areas of management information and analysis." In spite of growth, Cottrell insists that quality of service is still the firm's primary goal and a standard against which every innovative new service is measured.

"Although we have gotten bigger, we still offer the same local, face-to-face relationships that can get lost in the hurly-burly of some big firms," he says.

"If we offered only the same kinds of help that everybody else does, you might just as well pick an accountant from the yellow pages. But we're different. We're diversified, and while we are dedicated to serving businesses with an entrepreneurial spirit, our clients include businesses operating for profit as well as nonprofit organizations and government agencies," Cottrell says.
