Orem -- Construction has begun on MIDTOWN VILLAGE, the largest mixed-use commercial development undertaken in Utah County, based on square foot-age and tenant mix. Second in size only to the Gateway in Salt Lake City, the $75 million project was started by developer Larry Myler nearly three years ago.

Due to funding problems, work was halted after the excavation, leaving a gaping hole in Orem's commercial district. But after the long delay, workers have begun laying the raft slab foundation for the State Street development. Big-D Construction supervised the initial concrete pour for the large matt foundation, using 1,200 cubic yards of concrete in the first of three pours. The completed foundation will use 4,500 cubic yards of concrete.
