Daze hears her mother's voice in the living room. This would not be unusual except that her mother died some two years ago. Daze, her father and her little brother Ryan have moved to a new house and a new school where Daze's stories about her mother's illness and treatment get her some attention and much sympathy. But she has troubling nightmares, and when she hears her mother's voice she hopes for an instant that what had happened had not happened.
