Metro Detroit lawyer disbarred after felony conviction.

Byline: Lee Dryden

A Grosse Pointe Park attorney consented to disbarment by an Attorney Discipline Board panel after he was convicted of a felony wire fraud charge.

The disbarment of Peter Truskolawski, P 82006 (MiLW No. 12-101216, 1 page) was issued Sept. 24, 2019, and effective Oct. 17, 2018. His law license was automatically suspended on that 2018 date of his felony conviction.

The case was assigned to Tri-County Hearing Panel No. 25, which included chairperson Edward R. Schonberg, and members Stuart B. Eisenberg and Kristine Heard Longstreet. Dina P. Dajani represented the Attorney Grievance Commission while Truskolawski represented himself.

The case

On Jan. 23, 2019, the grievance administrator filed a Notice of Filing of Judgment of Conviction stating that Truskolawski was convicted by guilty plea of one count of wire fraud, a felony, in United States of America v. Truskolawski in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, according to the hearing panel report.

An order to show cause was issued by the Attorney Discipline Board on Jan. 24, scheduling a hearing for March 20.

"The first hearing date was adjourned after the panel considered and granted respondent's emergency emotion noting his incarceration and efforts to retain counsel for this matter," the report stated. "Further, the parties conveyed to the panel that they were negotiating a mutual resolution."

The parties submitted a Stipulation for Consent Order of Discipline on May 28 and agreed to disbarment.

"The hearing panel has considered the stipulation and has concluded that it is reasonable and is consistent with the goals of these discipline proceedings," the report stated.

Based on Truskolawski's conviction and the parties' stipulation, the panel found that he engaged in conduct that violated a criminal law of a state or of the United States, in violation of MCR 9.104(5), according to the disbarment notice.
