A Message From the Editor-
in-Chief
For the past 25 years, I have had the honor of being associated with the International
Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology (IJOTCC), first as
Associate Editor and then as Editor-in-Chief. During that period, the Journal has
increased its output from four issues a year to its current 14 issues. It has been a great
privilege to work with so many persons throughout the world—authors, reviewers, and
members of the Editorial Board, all of whom have contributed in their own way to that
increase. In addition, many outstanding people associated with SAGE Publications
have helped us along the way. It has been a challenge and a pleasure. I have been fortu-
nate to have made many friends, both personally and “virtual.” It is thus that with regret
and some sadness that this will be my last year with the Journal.
As of January 2017, Dr. Mark T. Palermo will become the Editor-in Chief of the
IJOTCC. Dr. Palermo graduated from the University of Rome Medical School, La
Sapienza, in 1987, with his medical doctorate dissertation under the supervision of the
late Prof. Franco Ferracuti, renowned criminologist. He later specialized in neurology
at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and in psychiatry at the Phipps
Clinic of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore. He received his mas-
ter’s degree in criminology from the University of Rome. He is clinical assistant pro-
fessor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine of the Medical
College of Wisconsin, chairman of The Law and Behavior Foundation in Amsterdam,
and an independent medical examiner for various international organizations in Rome.
He will, I am sure, bring new ideas and new perspectives to the Journal.
I wish to thank the members of the IJOTCC editorial board for their assistance
throughout the years. I also thank the many outside reviewers who unselfishly gave
their time to review the articles submitted to the Journal, the various persons at SAGE
Publications who have aided in my work, and all the authors who have contributed their
articles to the Journal. Best wishes to all for the holiday season and for the New Year!
