Message from the Chair

Greetings Taxation Section Members! My last message and our last issue covered our activities through June 2020. Since then, we held our first virtual Sacramento Delegation (in October) and our first virtual Annual Meeting and California Tax Policy Conference (in November) —both were hugely successful. 421 people registered for the AM/CTPC, which is similar to the number of registrants we typically have each year.

Your Executive Committee continues to meet virtually. We expect to resume in-person meetings this June. The 2021 DC Delegation (this Spring) and 2021 Sacramento Delegation (this Fall) will be held virtually. We are planning for an in-person 2021 Annual Meeting of the California Tax Bar and California Tax Policy Conference to be held November 3-5. If the in-person meeting is not possible or desirable for whatever reason(s), we will hold a virtual conference again. Please visit calawyers.org/section/taxation for updates and to see information regarding all our Section's planned events. Most of this information is under the "events" tab but some information is found by clicking on the three vertical dots on the right side of the page.

Our website also has information pertaining to our Executive Committee, our Standing Committees, and other programs that allow you to get involved with the Section, including the Odyssey Mentorship Program. CLA is looking into solutions for making the magazine easier to read online—so that the look and feel is the same as the paper version—and to provide a search function so our members can conduct word searches through all past issues.

We are continuing to produce and market webinars on various topics. The full schedule of planned webinars can be found on the website. You also have access to past webinars. Fees for viewing webinars vary. The fees support our section activities and represent a significant source of our annual revenue. Please support the section by viewing our webinars. Most webinars provide CLE credits and our fees generally are less than those charged by for-profit providers.

As always, I encourage each of you to get involved in the Section in one way or another. Whether you are a new or seasoned practitioner or in the middle of your career, whether a transactional lawyer or a litigator, you have something to offer your fellow professionals and something to learn (in my humble...
