MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

In this issue, we are pleased to present two of the winners of the Marshall M. Schulman Student Writing Competition. Grand Prize winner Elizabeth Atkins, a 2015 graduate of Thomas Jefferson School of Law, has written #Black Lives Recorded: Will The Darling Savior of Police Brutality Be The Downfall of Modern Privacy, an insightful commentary on the potential downside of the much-heralded use of body cameras by law enforcement. Gurney Pearsall, a 2016 graduate of the University of Colorado Law School, won an Honorable Mention for his submission, Presumed Abuse: Restoring Elder Justice in the 21st Century by Enacting a Presumption of Abuse and Disinheriting Abusers, which recommends the enactment of legislation that would assist in the prosecution of those who are victimizing the increasing elder population of this country.

This issue also includes an essay by Adithya Mani and Firdaus F. Dordi (a member of the California Criminal Law Executive Committee), True Threats v. Pure Speech: The Intersection of Public Safety and the First Amendment, which examines the tension between protected speech and "true threats" in a world where the Internet and social media have blurred...
