MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

AUTHOR

Jaclyn N. Zumaeta

Welcome to the Fall 2023 issue of the California Tax Lawyer. It's been so nice to be able to see so many of our friends and colleagues over the last several months, both at hybrid and virtual events! I look forward to seeing more of you at our upcoming events, and hopefully being able to enjoy some California sun while we network! While I am grateful for the very wet winter that is going to help the state so much with our ongoing drought, I also enjoyed the warmer months during this year!

Below is a recap of recent events for your review. Many of these events are addressed in this issue in in depth articles.

  • On July 26, 2022, our Income and Other committee virtually hosted its annual Income Tax Seminar. There were a variety of lively topics related to remote working and the tax challenges therein, market-based sourcing, and OTA's policies and processes when drafting opinions. We had a huge turnout and received great feedback from the event! Thanks to Hanna Cho and the Income and Other Committee for making the event a success.
  • On October 21, 2022, the Executive Committee in conjunction with the State and Local Tax Committee held the annual Sacramento Delegation event. This yearly event allows tax practitioners to present papers offering proposals related to topics of concern to high-ranking officials of the Board of Equalization, California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, Franchise Tax Board, Office of Tax Appeals, and Legislative staff. Thank you to Michael Laisne and Myriam Bouaziz for all of the work that you put into coordinating the event!
  • On November 2nd -4th we hosted the 2022 Annual Meeting and Tax Policy Conference on San Diego's beautiful Coronado Island. I know that this is a favorite event for many of our section members and the 2022 edition did not disappoint! There are highlights from the event in this issue of the CTL in case you missed it and many of the panel programs are also available on our section website if you want to relive them or see them for the first time. Thank you so much to Adria Price and Mike Shaikh and the planning committee team for the countless hours of work that went into putting this event together (this was this team's second year putting on the Annual Meeting)! We look forward to seeing you all at a brand-new location this year, the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Palm Springs! This issue includes information on registration which is now live!
  • In February...
