I very much enjoyed the article "Rediscovering Gabriela Mistral" in the February 2008 issue of Americas. The article broadly portrays Gabriela Mistral as a woman of remarkable accomplishment and complexity, and provides a tantalizing glimpse into the many boxes of her newly uncovered documents that promise to better shape our understanding of her life and work. Thank you for your timely article discussing this important recent literary and historical discovery.

The piece brought back vivid memories of my visit, about ten years ago, to northern Chile and the beautiful Elqui Valley, including the town of Mistral's birth, Vicuna, and Montegrande, where she spent part of her childhood and is now buried.
