Albert Andrews, Jr.

Albert Andrews, Jr., affectionately known to those who love him as Andy or Grandy, passed away Friday, Dec. 22,2017, three days after his 78th birthday.

A stranger to none and friend to all, Andy was born in New York on Dec. 19,1939, to Albert Andrews, Sr. and Francis Hall Andrews.

Andy completed his childhood education at the Hotchkiss School in Salisbury, Conn. He graduated from the University of Michigan and then earned his Juris Doctor at the University of Minnesota School of Law.

A brilliant legal mind and scholar at heart, he practiced law in Minneapolis. Andy served as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota in the Business Law Department. Bar admissions included the states of Minnesota and Wyoming in addition to the United States Supreme Court.

Andy enjoyed travel and was thrilled to visit each of the seven continents. He loved hunting, fishing and skiing, and had an uncanny ability to spot wildlife from miles away. In addition to his love of nature, he was an avid sports fan and spent many hours watching football, golf, soccer and hockey.

A believer in philanthropy and service, Andy was involved with many boards and commissions including the Guthrie Theater Foundation (former president and chair); the University of Minnesota Law School (Board of Visitors), American Rivers, Draper Museum of Natural History of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Earth Justice Legal Defense Fund, Governor's Commission on the Arts (chair of public sector funding), Greater Yellowstone Coalition, League of Conservation Voters, Minneapolis Foundation, Minnesota Medical Foundation, University College of the University of Minnesota...
