NEW POSITIONS

Deena Hyson Bailey has been named managing assistant general counsel of Cargill's law department and assistant vice president of the Cargill Protein - North America division, Wichita. She is also lead labor and employment lawyer for the division, Cargill's U.S. immigration and identity verification counsel, and the global health and safety lawyer for all Cargill businesses and environmental health and safety functions.

Brian Boos has joined the employment and litigation practice group at Foulston Siefkin LLP. He has 35 years of experience representing individuals and corporations in complex insurance and commercial cases.

Shawn Jurgensen was recently hired to serve as chief public policy officer and director of center of innovation with the Council of State Governments in Lexington, Kentucky. He has served in the judicial branch since 2016 and as special counsel to the chief justice of the Supreme Court since 2017.

Rekha Sharma-Crawford was recently elected secretary of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, becoming the first South Asian to hold the position. She is a partner in Sharma-Crawford Attorneys at Law LLC in Kansas City, Missouri, and a 2018 recipient of the KBA's Courageous Attorney Award.

Sarah E. Stewart has been appointed to a judgeship position in the 6th Judicial District by Gov. Laura Kelly after the retirement of Judge Steven C. Montgomery. Stewart was most recently the city prosecutor for the city of Lenexa.

REAPPOINTMENTS

Chief Judge Glenn Braun, 23rd Judicial District (Ellis, Gove, Rooks, and Trego counties), was reappointed to the Specialty Court Committee by the Supreme Court with a term running through June 30, 2026. The committee makes recommendations to the Supreme Court regarding the development and administration of specialty courts in Kansas district courts.

James P. Zakoura was unanimously re-elected by the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System Board of Trustees as chairperson of the board for fiscal year 2024. Zakoura is a member of Foulston Siefkin LLP in Overland Park and was first appointed to the board in 2018, then reappointed in 2021.
