NEW POSITIONS

William "Trey" Humphrey III has been elected to the KU Endowment Board of Trustees. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and the University of Kansas. Humphrey is chief legal officer at Lockton and previously served as the company's executive vice president and group general counsel and secretary. He also serves on the board of directors of the Police Foundation of Kansas City, KC Common Good, and the Kansas Alpha of Phi Delta Theta Education Foundation.

Schalie Johnson has been elected to the KU Endowment Board of Trustees. She is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law and Connecticut College. Johnson is a partner at Wallace Saunders, Overland Park. She serves on the KU School of Law's board of governors and is a member of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Central Exchange.

Matt Mentzer has joined Foulston Siefkin LLP's Overland Park office. He was previously the lead tax attorney for a large national wealth management company and has 15 years of accounting and legal experience encompassing trusts, estates, probate, and tax matters. He earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law.

Ariel Rhines has joined McDowell Rice Smith &Buchanan PC. She practices on the litigation and dispute resolution team with a focus on construction and architecture/ engineering law and product liability. She previously worked as a research attorney for the 10th Judicial District of Kansas where she supported both the civil and criminal benches with legal research and analysis.

Jason Schurke, of Gilmore &Bell, PC, was named director of the firm's Kansas City office. He earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2014 and served as a staff member of the UMKC Law Review and as student editor in chief of The Urban Lawyer.

Natasha Veenis has joined McDowell Rice Smith &Buchanan PC and practices exclusively in family law, providing representation in dissolutions of marriage, child custody, child support, paternity, and other complex matters related to divorce and family law. She previously worked at a boutique family law firm in Wichita.

Andrew Zarda has joined McDowell Rice Smith &Buchanan PC and represents clients nationwide with respect to real estate, corporate, financing, mergers and acquisition, business formation, and other business transactions. He also provides general counsel services for several Kansas City based companies.

RECOGNITIONS

Bethany Fields, Riley County deputy attorney, was named the Prosecutor of the Year for 2022-2023 by the Kansas County and District Attorney's Association. She earned her J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law and has served in Riley County since 2005.

Foulston Siefkin LLP was recently recognized in the 2024 Benchmark Litigation USA rankings as one of three "highly recommended" firms in Kansas. Attorneys ranked as Litigation Stars for 2024 were: James M. Armstrong, Gary L. Ayers, Jeff P. DeGraffenreid, Holly A. Dyer, Jay F. Fowler, Wyatt A. Hoch, Jeffery A. Jordan, Scott C. Nehrbass, Michael J. Norton, David E. Rogers, Tony F. Rupp, Kyle J. Steadman, Shannon D. Wead, and Craig W. West. Ranked as Labor and Employment Stars for 2024 were: Boyd A. Sal Intagliata, of Monnat & Spurrier, Chartered, was named to the list of 2023 Missouri &Kansas Super Lawyers for the 10th straight year. He is a shareholder in the firm and has practiced law for more than 28 years including 24 years as a criminal defense attorney in private practice and four years as a Sedgwick County Assistant District Attorney. He earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law and is a graduate of the National Criminal Defense College.
