Hometown: My mother was an officer in the Air Force. We moved around, but eventually settled in Burlington, North Carolina.

Compassionate. Easy-going. Sarcastic. Mother.

Why did you become a lawyer?

Law seemed like a really valuable and versatile degree and one that I could use to hopefully do some good in the world. Plus, working in a doctor’s office cured me of wanting to go to medical school.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

“Comparison is the thief of joy.” —Teodore Roosevelt. I take that as a reminder to be grateful and humble, and to define success for myself.

What is one of the most positive experiences you’ve had as a lawyer?

I designed and taught a lecture series on American government and civics that I gave to community members for free at my local libraries. It was incredibly rewarding to use my legal education and experience to teach lay people how our government functions.

What do you like the most about your practice area?

I mostly provide freelance legal services to other lawyers—litigation support and legal research and writing. I work with lawyers...
