New Hampshire Representative Renny Cushing (D) is a founder of Murder Victims' Families for Human Rights and the New Hampshire Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. The murders of his father in 1988 and his brother-in-law in 2011 were catalysts for his work as an advocate for crime victims and an opponent of capital punishment.

Colorado Senator Rhonda Fields (D) is the assistant majority leader and the first African American woman to serve her district. She began advocating for victims after the murders of her son and his fiancee. She was elected to the House in 2010 and to the Senate in 2017. She has supported capital punishment since before her time in the legislature.
