Job Responsibilities

I work in the Juvenile Justice Division of NDAA. My job is to provide training to juvenile court prosecutors and allied professionals. I am also doing work to get prosecutors in touch with each other across state lines to best address challenges that are occurring across the country with the most up to date programs and ideas so that communities are kept safe and juvenile offenders are rehabilitated.

Qualifications

I am a former high school English teacher who has a J.D. from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Law.

Professional Memberships and Activities

I am the former North Carolina President of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children and I am a Wake County Schools Circle Keeper (Restorative Justice Program).

1 Before working at NDAA, what was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?

I was a mounted park ranger in the Boston Commons. I used to haul a very large horse into downtown Boston and ride him around while helping tourists, asking people to pour out their alcohol and asking people to put their dogs on a leash. Interestingly, I had no background riding horses prior to being hired and completed a three-week training course at the end of which I could barely walk having fallen off my horse several times.

3 What is on your wish list for the next 10 years at NDAA?

I would like for the public to have a better understanding of the difficulty of a prosecutor's job and a greater appreciation for the work prosecutors do to keep the public safe. I...
