Meet the Candidates:KBA Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates

For the past seven years, I have served the Kansas Bar Association and the American Bar Association through three and a half terms as the Kansas Young Lawyer Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates. This was a new position, created by the ABA House of Delegates with the purpose of encouraging rising young leaders to become involved, and continue their involvement, with the ABA House of Delegates. I continued to hold that position with that long term view. As my Young Lawyer Delegate term ends this August, I would be honored to continue to serve Kansas lawyers in the KBA Delegate role.

As a practicing lawyer in Kansas, I know the issues faced by lawyers in our communities and state and will work as an ABA Delegate to address those important issues. As a small town practitioner in Southeast Kansas, I believe the views of small town — and young — lawyers need to have a voice in the American Bar Association. I am committed to representing Kansas with that voice.

While serving as the KBA Young Lawyer Delegate, for example, I had input on new ethics rules, uniform laws, multijurisdictional practice, and urging governments to provide adequate funding for services in rural communities. All of these issues are important to Kansas lawyers.
