Meet your new president-elect and Executive Board members.

GFOA is governed by the 18-member Executive Board, which consists of 15 members-at-large serving staggered three-year terms, the current president, the previous year's president, and the president-elect. At the association's annual business meeting in New York City in May, members voted for a slate of nominees for president-elect and five new members of the GFOA Executive Board. Each of these individuals is profiled below.

PRESIDENT-ELECT NANCY L. ZIELKE

Assistant Vice Chancellor for Finance

University of Missouri--Kansas City

During her 17 years as a member of GFOA, Nancy Zielke has served the association in a number of leadership positions. In addition to her tenure on the Executive Board from 1999 to 2002, she has served on two standing committees--the Committee on Governmental Budgeting and Management and the Committee on Governmental Debt and Fiscal Policy. She is a member of both the Women's Public Finance Network and the Technology Resources Group. Zielke has also served as a reviewer for various GFOA awards programs, taught national training seminars, and authored articles for Government Finance Review. She is a 1995 graduate of the Advanced Government Finance Institute.

Zielke recently led a cross-discipline team to develop a new budgeting process for the University of Missouri-Kansas City modeled after the NACSLB recommended budget practices. This effort earned the 2003 GFOA Award for Excellence. Other notable career accomplishments include the development and implementation of a transition plan for the consolidation of city and county government, the development of the first five-year capital improvements program for a mid-size urban community, and the promotion of business process redesign efforts to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of service delivery. She holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Kansas-Lawrence and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Adrian College.

Goals:

* Promote the development of capital planning and financial policies and recommended practices to assist in long-range strategic and economic development decision making

* Continue to promote the use of technology in the workplace and identify opportunities for using technology to promote efficient service delivery

* Be an ambassador for GFOA
