Mauldin picks developer for City Center.

The Mauldin City Council is moving forward with a project to create the kind of downtown city leaders have been hoping to develop for years.

After two readings, the council voted Oct. 30 to sell land to Michigan-based Contour Development Group, who will move forward with Mauldin's City Center project.

"This is an important first step in achieving the city's goal of creating a downtown that is anticipated to deliver a mix of development that serves the commercial, office, hospitality, cultural and residential needs of our growing community," Mayor Dennis Raines said in a news release. "The City Center concept has been a vision for the city's leadership that we have been diligently working to bring to fruition."

The selection is contingent upon the sale of about 7.5 acres of city-owned property for $3.25 million and that sale is expected to close at the end of November, according to Dustin Tenney, retail leasing and investment sales specialist for SVN...
