PositionBalance Sheet - Senior vice president and treasurer of Sony Corporation of America - Brief Article

As a high school student, Mary Jo Green skipped grades -- not classes -- to graduate at age 16, while working the register, part-time, in the basement of a Newark, N.J. "five and-10-cent" store of retailer McCrory Corp. Quick fingers constantly jamming the register got her sent to the accounting office, where a CPA/mentor steered her to a career in finance. While scholarships supported her college tuition, she supported herself -- often working 40 hours a week, evenings and weekends. She's balanced single parenthood (raising her daughter solo for 10 years) with a demanding career in financial operations in retail, then chemicals, pharmaceuticals, office products and now media and entertainment. Six years ago, she re-married, and in the process of acquiring a husband, she got with the deal three additional children -- the easy way, she claims, not having to go through the births!
