IN AN ACT that assured Congress of its full summer recess and Pres. Donald Trump of avoiding any difficult choices prior to the next election, the House, Senate, and President agreed to a budget deal that ensures continuous trillion-dollar deficits. It was an act of generational selfishness. The message is clear--we are going to keep spending money; allow programs to grow without any concern if they are worth the cost; do nothing about burgeoning entitlements; and let you pick up the tab after we are gone.

The politicians who love to carry on about their concern for our children and grandchildren have just told them quite clearly that they simply do not give a damn. By putting a bipartisan cover on unconstrained deficits, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Pres. Trump have made it easier for any and all presidential candidates to pursue this fraud--as if they needed any more encouragement.

The current crop of Democratic presidential hopefuls remains relentless in continuously upping the ante and then doubling down when called out on their outrageous promises. They are turning the tragic illusions of Marxism/Leninism/Stalinism/Maoism on their head. The pursuers of this monstrous fraud were willing to sacrifice the blood and treasure of current generations to provide the illusion of some distant classless utopia. You have to break eggs to make an omelet, so their giddy supporters would assert. Of course, the omelet never arrived. Those dreams of utopia turned into nightmares of Gulags, mass starvation, and bureaucratic prison states.

Today's Democratic Utopians clearly understand that such an illusion never would play in a democratic society. Instead of breaking eggs today and promising an omelet tomorrow, they have something more clever in mind: let's serve the omelet today and let the future handle the bill and the broken eggs. These keen-eyed politicians know that sacrificing for the future went out with black-and-white television. For instance, the Medicare Trustees report has reasserted that the Part A Trust Fund, which covers payment for hospital care, will be depleted in 2026.
