The first commercial airline took flight on Jan. 1, 1914, in a flying boat fashioned of wood. The St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line ferried passengers 18 miles in Florida during its brief four-month tenure. The Benoist XIV flying boat seated one passenger at a time.
