Marine Corps Finding 'Magic' in Ukraine.

* The war in Ukraine is teaching the Marine Corps about how to operationalize some of its experimental concepts, said Commandant Gen. David Berger.

The service is still focused on lethality, but the past six months has reinforced the focus on speed, he told reporters recently.

For example, the service has been experimenting with launching Naval Strike Missiles off the back of an unmanned Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, or JLTV. The "magic" doesn't come from the capabilities themselves but the ability to link sensors and the firing mechanisms no matter where the sensor is in the world, he said.

"Connecting those things in a very short timeline has been a huge advantage," he said. "We will do much more of that."

The ability to have a sensor-agnostic weapon is an advantage, he explained.

"The magic of it is stitching that all together quickly--it could be the U.K.'s, it could be somebody else's sensor," he said. "But the speed at which you can do that--magic, magical."
