1 36th Annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race More than 1,000 dogs will line up along Fourth Avenue in Anchorage. The Saturday ceremonial start begins in Anchorage and ends some 11 miles from the starting line. The official start offers onlookers an opportunity to experience history as they get a clasp view of the teams preparing for the 1,049-mile journey to Nome. 1 Miners and Trappers Ball The theme for the 56th annual Ball is "Alaska's Gold--Pan It, Pump It, Pipe It."This costume-crazed event is the crown of the annual Fur Rondezvous winter festival, complete with live music and the Mr. Fur Face beard contest.
