Analysts have predicted that the October manhunt for the snipers linked to the shootings across the Washington area will end up costing governments several million dollars. In Montgomery County, Maryland, where the first five shootings occurred, the cost of the manhunt already has exceeded $1 million. In neighboring Prince George's County, where a 13-year-old boy was shot on the way to school, police spent $10,000 a day to provide protection to 235 area schools.
