It was with great interest that I read the article by Caleb Bach on Garcia Marquez. As a high school teacher of Spanish, I have read and discussed in my classes many of the writer's short stories. I also teach the first chapter of One Hundred Years of Solitude to my Hispanic students as an introduction to magic realism. After reading the same chapter for at least five years, I feel I have gotten to know the main characters very well. They are almost family.
