Scope: The Commerce Department’s National Ocean
Service seeks applications for the Implementation of
the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System, a national
and regional partnership working to produce, integrate
and communicate high-quality ocean, coastal and
Great Lakes data that meets the safety, economic and
stewardship needs of the nation.
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2020.
Funds: Up to $40 million for up to 11 awards ranging
from $300,000 to $6 million.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; nonprot
organizations; and state, local and Native American
tribal governments.

Economic impacts of investments in U.S.
neutron research sources and facilities (DOC)
Scope: The Commerce Department’s National Institute
of Standards and Technology seeks applications for
the Assessment of the Retrospective and Prospective
Economic Impacts of Investments in U.S. Neutron
Research Sources and Facilities from 1968 to 2030
announcement to assess the nation’s current and future
need for neutron research sources and facilities.
Deadline: July 22, 2020.
Funds: Approximately $800,000 with a project period of
two years.
Eligibility: Unrestricted, except for federal agencies.
Areas: DOC said the awardee will characterize the
past and current state of neutron research sources and
facilities in terms of the research, technology transfer
activities and scientic and technological developments.
The awardee will produce qualitative and quantitative
economic impact assessments of the investments in
neutron research sources and facilities in the United
States across an array of applications, industries
and supply chains, and where possible, present the
economic impact data on a facility-level basis.

Lupus, Transformative Vision Award (DOD)
Scope: The Defense Department’s U.S. Army Medical
Research Acquisition Activity seeks applications for the
Lupus, Transformative Vision Award announcement to
encourage applications that will fulll an extraordinary
vision for dramatically improving the quality of life of
lupus patients.
Deadline: Pre-applications, Aug. 25, 2020; proposals,
Sept. 23, 2020.
Funds: Approximately $2.5 million for approximately one
or two Transformative Vision Award (TVA) applications.
Eligibility: Unrestricted.
Areas: DOD said to be considered for funding,
applications for the FY20 Lupus Research Program
TVA are required to address the following focus area:
improving quality of life for individuals living with
lupus, including but not limited to: access to health
care resources, outcomes research, symptom control,
comparative effectiveness research, and issues and
challenges that when addressed make day-to-day living
with lupus easier and life more fullling.

Lupus, Impact Award (DOD)
Scope: The Defense Department’s U.S. Army Medical
Research Acquisition Activity seeks applications for the
Lupus, Impact Award announcement to support the full
spectrum of research projects or ideas that specically
focus on scientic and clinical lupus issues, which, if
successfully addressed, have the potential to make a
major impact in lupus research and/or lupus disease.
Deadline: Pre-applications, Aug. 25, 2020; proposals,
Sept. 23, 2020.
Funds: Approximately $4.5 million for approximately six
Impact Award applications.
Eligibility: Unrestricted.
Areas: DOD said focus areas include: understanding
how lupus disease heterogeneity impacts risk of
disease, disease presentation, clinical course and
outcomes; understanding lupus disease heterogeneity;
improving quality of life for individuals living with
lupus; and understanding how the underlying genetic
components and gene-environment interactions of lupus
relate to clinical disease characteristics using functional
genomic studies; among others.
