Retired Army Lt. Gen. C. V. "Chris" Christianson, who served the Army for more than 40 years and retired from active duty in May 2008, is departing his position March 31 as the director of the Center for Strategic and Joint Logistics at National Defense University.

His leadership and contributions to the Defense Department logistics community resulted in unprecedented support to the fight, while enabling unparalleled freedom of action for operational commanders.

Over the span of his career, he served in a variety of assignments and locations, including combat theaters in Southeast Asia, the Balkans, Northeast Asia and the Persian Gulf. He commanded troops with distinction at all levels and is regarded as one of the premier leaders, visionaries and mentors in the Army and in joint, interagency and multinational theater logistics operations.

He also served as the Army G4 and the joint staff director of logistics, J4, and each time brought the performance of institutions to new levels of integration and effectiveness.

He brought disparate organizational leaders together after the Haiti relief operation and quietly facilitated dialogue and the capturing of important issues to work before the next disaster.

His work in creating a shared vision among the services on the creation of Joint Publication 4-0 resulted in a compelling image of what joint logistics should be in the future.
