Smoking ban's a farce:

Applaud the smoking ban if you like, but don't complain when the tyranny of the self-righteous continues until it has turned this country into one big covenant-controlled neighborhood

A lot of what is used to justify this is workplace safety. That is important. The problem being that there is no conclusive proof that second-hand smoke is a safety issue.

I'll tell you what tyranny is, it's when nonsmokers have to inhale that foul evil nicotine-laden smoke. I don't have to come home from a bar smelling like an ashtray. Admit it, we're all better for it. Survey after survey shows that the chief complaint of restaurant patrons is second-hand smoke.

Having said all that, a severe ban does affect small business owners. I would be in favor of having a separate class of business licenses that allow a "smoking bar," and let the marketplace dictate the smoking issue.
