* We're certainly not greenies, but we like the concept of "sustainability," a principle that goes "beyond conservation [to maintain] the planet's natural functions, resources, and beauty" or so says Worldwise Inc., San Rafael, Calif. In other words, they sell Earth-friendly products. No complaint here, especially since we tried 'the company's Wise-Wood logs ($8 for a box of six), which are made from 100% premium wood mill surplus, tightly compressed and dense so as to be long-burning. We love them, as they combine the ambience of traditional firewood (minus the hassle) with the compact convenience of wax logs (minus the chemicals). Throw in Fatwood Starterstix ($5 for 14), kindling cut from the naturally flammable, sap-laden stumps and cores of fallen pine...
