Currently, only certain building contractors performing renovations are required to have completed a lead safety program course. However, as the movement towards creating green and healthy buildings gets even stronger, it's anticipated that by 2010 all those working with a pre-1978 home will be required to be knowledgeable about lead safety (no one is yet certain exactly what the requirements will be). UNCA's Lead Poisoning Prevention Program is looking to help painters, renovators, maintenance workers, realtors and anyone else working on their pre-1978 home stay ahead of the curve by offering eight-hour education courses.
