People saddled with student loan debt are delaying purchasing a home and many worry about their college debt most or all of the time, relates the sixth annual Neighbor-Works America at Home survey, which reveals that people with the most debt--millennial and women--are underrepresented among homeowners.

Nationally, student loan debt now surpasses 1.5 trillion dollars and comprises 42% of all consumer debt. Millennials are shouldering most of the ballooning student loan debt, which has risen 130% since 2008. Women carry nearly two-thirds of the total, or almost $900,000,000,000.

In addition:

* 29% of women are burdened with student loan debt, compared to 23% of men.

* 48% of women of color have student loan debt, compared to 22% of white women and 15% of white men.
