Tina Lindgren, the woman who led I the drive to reorganize Alaska's tourism industry into one statewide marketing organization and who was named as one of the nation's most powerful women in tourism, announced recently that she is stepping down as president and chief operating officer of the Alaska Travel Industry Association.

Lindgren said that she is resigning, effective July 12, to pursue other interests and spend more time with her family.

"When I accepted this job two years ago, my goal was to bring to reality the New Millennium Plan: to consolidate the functions of three organizations under one roof; to privatize tourism marketing in Alaska; and, to build a top-notch organization," Lindgren said.

"Since that time we've built a new association from the ground up, doubled the membership, contracted with the state to conduct marketing for Alaska and we've met our goal of raising over $5 million from the visitor industry. I feel that I've accomplished what I set out to do. I'm...
