Lies and blackmail.

I'm writing about two things in the July issue. First, in Eduardo Galeano's article, "Lies and More Lies," he cites the Administration's lie that Iraq possessed WMDs as a pretext to get us into war. It struck me that we need to remember that we weren't "lied" into war, as many media pundits and politicians (including Senator Clinton) are proclaiming. Let's imagine for a moment Iraq did have WMDs. That would not have justified our preemptive, illegal war and the ensuing occupation.

Though it is important to put a spotlight on the Administration's many lies, I don't feel like I was "lied" into war. I feel like I and many of the citizens of this country were forcibly dragged, kicking and screaming, into a...
