Letters to Utah Business.

Mr. Colby,

I compliment you on your recent article published in Utah Business (Digital Divide, Oct. 2000). Coming from what I guess would still be considered a rural area in Utah, I know I speak for many who are frustrated with Qwest and what we perceive as the company's lack of motivation in getting DSL capabilities in our area.

I live in West Layton, just a few miles east of the north end of the Great Salt Lake. My wife will eventually be working from our home in which the ability to download and upload information in short periods of time each day is critical.

We are extremely disappointed with Qwest. My computer is equipped with a 56K modem, yet we are never able to connect to the Internet at anything greater than 24bps. For doing business, this quite frankly is a joke. I have called Qwest multiple times and always get the same answer. "Well sir, we are looking to have lines for DSL in your area by September." This was about three Septembers ago. The bottom line is that we're losing income potential...
