Don't Blame the Music!

All musicians, Eminem included, should have the right to rap or sing about whatever they want ("They Want Your MTV," 10/16/00). Limiting what they can and can't say is against our freedom of speech. Whoever does not agree with the lyrics of any musicians should not buy or listen to their CDs.

Eminem doesn't mean anything harmful with his lyrics. If you pay close attention to the ends of his songs, he says he's kidding. Limp Bizkit's music has bad lyrics too. My guess is that both bands have some extra anger that they haven't been able to get rid of, so that's why they sing what they do. Often, when I get upset, I go to my room and turn on some Eminem or Limp Bizkit to get rid of my hatred.

My friends and I all listen to the music that is being attacked. Do musical artists put a gun or knife in our hand and tell us to pull the trigger? No, they sing what they feel, and anyone who honestly takes them seriously has a few problems themselves. Anger kills people, not music.

With all the unhappy things Eminem has been through, cut the guy some slack! And let him enjoy his time in the spotlight. Recently, I had a big Eminem poster behind my door, so my parents wouldn't have to look at it. Then I went to my grandma's house for a while, and guess what? When I came home, the poster was gone. Where was it? In the garbage! I was crying for about an hour. Let us kids enjoy Eminem's music, and let him enjoy what...
