Dear Editor:

Thank you for your article explaining why America must put a greater emphasis on making sure our students learn science, technology, engineering and math. I can tell you from experience that the biotech industry supports upgrading the teaching of the STEM subjects in our schools. Their companies cannot grow and thrive without a properly educated workforce.

Of particular concern to me is the teaching of good science. Our students must come out of our schools with a better understanding of biology, chemistry and physics so that America can retain its leadership in the development of new medical and agricultural products and procedures.

Unfortunately we are now witnessing another campaign that threatens to undermine the teaching of good science. Some state legislatures are considering bills that encourage the teaching of alternative views to...
