Sharing health insurance's pain.

Thank you for continuing to bring this "health insurance crisis" to our attention. (An unhealthy state of affairs," Schwab, December) In such a wealthy, technological country, it is telling that the care of the human body has been so ignored. How can we pour billions of dollars into military build-up, but have no qualms neglecting our very humanity?

For those of us who are independents and must apply for a group-of-one or individual insurance policies, the options are limited. The one reasonably priced plan (well, that's relative) In Colorado was provided by Community Health Plan of the Rockies. Now they have filed for Chapter 11, and will no longer be providing small-group or individual plans in Colorado after May 31. The options are narrowing in a state dominated by small businesses and independent sole proprietors. It's no wonder we don't feel supported by our representatives.

A HOUSE DIVIDED

I found your October issue interesting for the breadth of housing types covered. Topics ranged from yurts, to co-housing communities ("Modern Communes") to the new subdivisions and thousands of new units being built north of the metroplex ("Northern Exposure"). Comparison of these three housing types is also interesting. Yurts are low-impact in materials and construction. Co-housing's ecologically minded residents practice recycling, composting. sharing facilities, and carpooling. Then there's "Northern Exposure." This development model typifies the cookie cutter, characterless projects that builders throw up in Anywhere U.S.A., and call them "communities."
