IOWA STILL DEBATING BILL

Dear Editor:

The June 2001 State Legislatures magazine incorrectly reported that Iowa had passed a bill that makes it a crime for a politician to say things about a rival candidate that he "knows to be untrue, deceptive or misleading" in campaign advertising.

Different versions of that legislation were passed by the Senate and House during the 2001 regular session and now await reconciliation...
